Working with Flow2 modules

  • PDF

Article summary

Along with your Flow2 system, you will receive a set of 12 placeholder modules: hollow plastic stand-in "modules" that can be substituted for active modules in studies that only require recording limited regions of the brain. At 14.5 grams each, placeholder modules weigh less than half as much as active modules (30g) and will not heat up in use while still allowing the headset to keep a proper fit. Swapping out active modules with placeholder modules can reduce the overall weight and temperature of the headset, increasing Flow2’s versatility and comfort.

To replace a module:

  1. Ensure the headset is powered down by using the On/Off switch on the Power/Data Cable.

To avoid accidentally turning the headset on during this process, which may damage the system, it is recommended to disconnect the Power/Data Cable from the headset while adding or removing modules.
  2. Invert the headset and rest it upside down on your lap or a table.
  3. Grip the plastic housing around the light pipes of the module you wish to remove, and twist counter-clockwise ~10 degrees until you hit a hard stop and are unable to rotate further.
  4. Once unlocked, pull the module straight out from the headset. There will be some friction to overcome.
  5. Store the removed active module in a safe place.
  6. Take the replacement module, active or placeholder, and locate the alignment mark around it's circumference.
  7.  Line up the module's alignment mark with the raised alignment mark around the empty slot of the headset shell.
  8. Press the module straight in until you hit a hard stop. There will be some friction, but if you don't feel it catch on the locking ring and begin sliding into place with gentle pressure, you may need to make small adjustments in the angle of the module to make sure it isn't skewed.
  9. Rotate the module clockwise ~10 degrees until you hit a hard stop and feel a subtle "snap" of the locking ring.
    The module is replaced.
