Ensure that lasers are off by using the Turn Lasers OFF button on the Portal Flow tab before picking up the Flow headset from the Headset Stand. Lasers should be off when transferring the headset to and from the Stand or a head.

If a participant has their hair up or in a style, ask them to wear their hair loose for proper placement and signal quality improvements. If the participant has bangs or long hair, ask them to sweep their hair back from their forehead. If your system requires earphones to play sound, have the participant put the earphones in now.

For the most comfortable and easy placement of the headset, lift the headset off the Headset Stand by grasping the Ear Covers and hold it directly above the participant's head. Stretch the Ear Covers all the way out as you hold it.

Standing squarely behind the participant, hold the headset directly above their head. The participant should look up and use their hands to guide the bottom rim of the Frontal Plate to their eyebrows. Once they’ve made contact, continue to stretch the Ear Covers out and lay the device down front to back (forehead → top of head → back of head).

Once placed, check the front of the headset to make sure it is in not too high or low on the forehead. The bottom of the Frontal Plate should be on the participant's eyebrows, and the forehead should be completely covered by the headset.

Connect the EEG leads to the participant at this time. See Connecting the EEG components.
